It's similar to a DSLR in that you can change lenses, but the micro four-thirds system doesn't use a pentaprism or mirror, so it's not a DSLR. Panasonic calls it a DILC: Digital Interchangeable Lens Camera. I don't see "DILC" taking off as a term, but this camera is hot stuff...it's been selling out everywhere, and Panasonic is struggling to keep up with demand. It uses SD cards and supports SDHC. The GF1 has a 12.1 megapixel Live MOS sensor (17.3 x 13.0mm in size), capturing JPEG or raw images at a maximum resolution of 4000 x 3000 pixels. www.robnunnphoto.com dSLR's are great, but lenses are expensive, even second-hand ones. If you buy a M42 lens mount adapter on eBay, you've then got access to the thousands of much cheaper (and older) M42 Lenses. M42 Glass is manual focus, and you have tomove the aperture ring by hand too, but if you put your Canon dSLR into Aperture Priority Mode, it will meter the scene and set your shutter-speed accordingly. By adding extension tubes we can take macro or close up photographs, and the equivalent EF lenses are incredibly expensive, but we can get similair shots at a fraction of the price. So buy an M42 lens mount adapter, then trawl the flea-markets, charity shops and car-boot sales for M42 glass and extension tubes. Thanks for watching, Rob.

The 50mm is more like the 35mm equivalent of an 80mm on a crop sensor camera, it's slightly telephoto, so you'll find yourself moving back a little if you're into landscapes - but it's a great portrait focal length. The intention was to show the cultural diversity of Thailand: Rural landscape but also the loud and fast city life (Bangkok). Entirely filmed with the Canon EOS 650D (Rebel T4i) and a 18-135mm F/3.5-5.6 lens in daylight. For the night shots a Canon 50mm F/1.8 lens was used. This was an ultimate camera test to see how the camera performs under all kind of conditions. Moiré and aliasing are clearly visible in some shots as well as the rolling shutter effect. The image quality is only good when the camera isn't moving too fast. Clearly visible in the shots filmed from a scooter or the Tuk-Tuk in Bangkok. We went through a series of primes lenses (14mm rectilinear, 15mm fisheye, 35mm 1.4, 50mm 1.2, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.2, 85mm 1.8, 135mm 2.0, 135mm 2.0 with 1.4 tele converter which you lose 1 stop and it became a 2.8) that they had. As we switched each lens the only thing that changed was the iso. Each lens was left wide open and we were around 3ft from the subject. All was shot on a 5D. It was also shot in 24P. GEBBS.TV

I brought the Alpha series Sony a77 about a few months ago new from a electronic wholeseller in NY. If I look straight into the translucent mirror it looked clear, but once I have the camera in a angle I see a marking on the plastic mirror. I try cleaning it and still remains on the plastic mirror. I think the NY wholeseller played with the camera, since Sony don't have a seal on the box. I was going to send for repair in Texas, but I heard the turn around is about a month. So I decided to order the part myself and replace it. The part is A1855640A and it cost me around shipped. It took a week to get here from Fedex ground. The replacement took less than a minute to get it back to new again. I love this camera. This video was shot on my Panasonic Lumix lx-5 Thanks to Carl Tr, it's the same model number for the a65.

It is always a tough decision when you set out to purchase your first digital SLR. Should you go with Nikon, Canon or another brand? Should you spend a lot of money on a body and go with the kit lens? What lenses should I buy, mega zoom or fixed focal length? These are all questions I try to answer on this recent Skype Call with a reader. He is trying to decide should he spend money on the D3100 or the D3000. If he spends the money on the D3100 he will not leave himself with any room to purchase good glass and will be stuck with the kit lens. If he goes with the D300 he will have enough money to pick up a nice starter lens and save a few hundred dollars towards his next purchase. I feel that a lot of photography when you are starting out is learning the theory and methods behind capturing great images. The equipment will play a roll as you grow but just starting out you want to get a basic knowledge of composition, exposure and editing and grow from there. Once you have the basics down than you can decide which direction to go next and when to upgrade. Just remember glass glass glass before spending money on a body and being left with no good glass.
