Some prime lenses may not have a built in motor for entry level dslr. Pros of Zoom lens (fixed aperture) 1. Ability to zoom in/out without changing lens. 2. You don't have to move around as much. 3. It's good for shooting events and hyper kids. Cons of Zoom lens (fixed aperture) 1. Very expensive comparable to prime lens quality 2. Heavy 3. Did I say it's very expensive? 4. Yes, it's very expensive lol. Pros of kit lens (variable aperture) 1. Very cheap 2. Not as heavy as fixed aperture zoom lens Cons of kit lens (variable aperture) 1. Compromise on quality, big time. 2. Terrible for low light. 3. Not as nicer bokeh as the prime or fixed aperture zoom lens
