After using the Canon Rebel T3i (600D) for about three weeks, here are my thoughts on photo and video quality. Overall, I love this camera and can't wait to experience expandability as I build a lens collection. Included are some test images and 1080p HD test footage. www.dslrfilmnoob.com I often get questions from people asking why their footage looks grainy, or why the motion in their video appears "jumpy" and "jagged." Many of these problems can be corrected by using the proper settings on your camera while filming. Grain in your video footage is often caused by using high ISO settings on your camera. Even though these HDSLR cameras can preform well in low light they still have there weaknesses. The canon 7d, t2i and 60d all share the same sensor and there for preform similarly in low light settings. I don't recommend shooting above ISO 1600. At ISO 1600 grain starts to show up noticeable but could still be removed using programs like Neat Video, and Magic Bullet Denoiser software programs (note: that both of these soften your footage slightly). At ISO 1000 and under video grain begins to fall off and becomes much less noticeable. So if you can try to keep your camera between ISO 100 and 1600 you should be problem free. Motion flicker can be caused by your exposure time. 1/30th, 1/60th, and 1/125th seem to work fine, but if you go above that, motion in your video will begin to seem choppy. If you have to much light in your scene and need to correct for it, the best option is to use either ND filters or a variable ND filter. I recommend buying a larger size filter if you can and using reducer rings to cover your smaller lenses (reducers are much cheaper then ND filters). So, in this follow up video, we will be showing you guys the exact reflector lighting techniques that we used to pull off every shot that we took in the SLR Lounge iPhone Photo Shoot. However, we will be using a legit camera this time. This time we will be using our 5D Mark II along with a 50mm 1.4 Prime Lens. But, trust me that you can pretty much get these exact same shots with virtually any DSLR body with a 50mm 1.4 Prime Lens attached. There is a theory out there, that it "doesn't take expensive professional photography equipment to take great photos." For those of you that have seen the FStoppers iPhone Photo Shoot, they show just that, taking great professional-looking images on an iPhone 3GS. We wanted to add upon what they have already done and go one step further in proving this theory. So, we did an iPhone Photo Shoot tribute to the FStoppers. But, for this photo shoot we have set some ground rules: The Rules 1) iPhone Camera Only -- We are not using any additional apps or functions other than the iPhone Camera that comes standard with each phone. 2) Accessories Less than -- We are limiting all additional photographic accessories to less than each, and less than 0 in total for the entire shoot. 3) Non-Professional Model -- We are using our lighting assistant and friend Yoko as our model. While she is beautiful, she doesn't have any prior modeling experience. 4) Harsh Daytime Lighting -- We rescheduled this shoot to ensure that we didn't have any nice, photography-friendly overcast skies. If you need a good all-around lens for your Canon DSLR, this may be for you. I got it with my 7D but I would get it for any Canon APS-C DSLR. It's a good lens to have in your bag. The front element does not rotate so filters are no problem.

Balancing and leveling the Steadicam "Merlin" can be a very time consuming task. If you balance it bottom heavy, you just need a few seconds to level the thingy, but you´ll also get fed up with the permanently tumbling. Balancing it as perfect as possible needs a lot of patience and therefore either strong arms or some little helpers. You can do this in Manual mode as well. #1 First set the ISO (for a Sunny day, pick lowest ISO, for cloudy start with ISO400) #2 Select aperture or f/stop # (your desired depth of field) Group shot or solo portrait? #3 Focus to see if shutter speed is fast enough - If Shutter speed is fast enough, take the picture - If shutter speed is not fast enough then increase the ISO to get to desired shutter speed OR open up your aperture to get to fast enough shutter speed. #4 If you're ISO is already too high and shutter speed is just shy of "minimum shutter speed" then see if you can open up the aperture Note: If your ISO is 100 or 200 and you're not getting fast enough shutter speed then you either open up your aperture OR increase the ISO to get faster shutter speed.

www.dslrfilmnoob.com I've been waiting to post this for more then a week. The first Bluetooth transmitter I received was defective and I had to send it back. The seller was kind enough to cover return shipping, but the back and forth took awhile. I finally received the working Bluetooth transmitter a few days ago and had a chance to run the setup through its paces. I'm very happy to say that everything works great! I was able to get clean audio transmitted over 50 feet line of site and about 20 feet through walls. Two tests of battery life showed 5 hours the first test and 3 hours 45 min second test. Not the 8 hours promised by the manual but still quit good for the price. The receiver actually ran out of power before the transmitter on the second test. I would have thought it would be the other way around. Both the transmitter and receiver aren't much bigger then a compact flash card so they wont add much weight to your rig and since the Bluetooth transmitter sends stereo audio you can get 2 channels of audio back to your camera. The Olympus PEN E-P3 is the latest camera from Olympus and replaces the E-P2. Here is a liitle behind the scenes of our camera prep for a short film tilted "Someday Hero" written and Directed By, Darcy Fray. We are using both a Canon5D Mark II and Canon 7D. We are also using Zeiss ZE Primes a Canon 70-200mm and a Tokina 16-50mm. Following focus with an Arri MMF-1 Mini Follow Focus. We are using a mix of Red Rock Micro and Zacuto accessories on the set. I hope they play nice. Marshall monitors for monitoring and a bevy of other gear supplied from Birns and Sawyer, Hollywood. Thanks for all the support.
